The Gift of Life

A benefit show to raise money for an adoption.

It was a surprisingly warm day in late October, a day that held the most perfect weather to celebrate the gift of life. I went to a benefit show in a good friends back yard. The the band The Muchmores put on a live concert to raise money for the main singer’s brothers adoption. Continue reading “The Gift of Life”

The Big Day and All Its Supporters

How the love languages work in weddings and with mentors.

“I do.”

Those are two small but very big words that happen on a big day that takes some big bucks to make happen. So it is only fair that the bride and groom get some killer gifts as a celebration for their new life together, and a payment to the wonderful night that you had spent with them. Let’s Give

Why we give and what it means.

The Excitement

Flashback to your seven year old self on the night of Christmas Eve. You’ve been tossing and turning for hours with eager eyes wide open just awaiting the race down the stairs in the morning. Imagine the pure joy and excitement that you had to see the heaping piles of presents snugged under the overly decorated Christmas tree. Continue reading “Let’s Give”

Open your Eyes

Reading response on the importance of editing video.

I am part of a movie family. Every weekend we are watching some kind of movie. We love going to the theaters when it is worth it’s price, Red Box is always a fan favorite, and HBO GO has been a recent consistent winner. Everyone sits in their designated chairs or couch in our living room and we sit and watch. Normally we sit in silence, besides the slight noise of us chewing on my Mom’s famous kettle corn, we are not the biggest movie talkers. Reading response on the different aspects of design.

You recognize the familiar vibrant red Cheez-It box with the cartoons of different cheese’s on the back, and the red flag against the classic yellow French’s mustard bottle with blue messaging. Our eyes are drawn to familiar and pleasing advertisements. Our eyes are drawn to images with appropriate layout, contrast, and typography. Continue reading “It’s All About the Design”

The Art of Photography

A reading response on the many characteristics of photography.

One photograph has the power to impact millions. A snapshot of a person, place, thing, event, feeling, anything can represent so much meaning, all with just one image. “Meanings are produced through the complex negotiations that make up the social process and practices through which we produce and interpret images,” Sturken and Cartwright, Viewers Make Meaning. Before and After

The editing process.

Editing a picture in Photoshop can make the world of difference. When I edited my photos for my blog posts in the photography unit I focused on the lighting, cropping, and pixels. With each photo I used different techniques to adjust the lighting based on the original photo. I worked with Smart Tone and adjusted the lighting and color according to the specific image, I was able to fidget around with each photo until I got it where I wanted. “One of my favorite gifts that I’ve ever gotten is this camera. It’s a really funny story for this camera because this summer I was in New York, and I go into New York just kind of like I work there. It was fun this summer ’cause I kind of had a lot of friends from Furman that were in the city that I got to hang out with. Also, my cousins live there, two of them live in Brooklyn, and we’re really close, they are like my brothers. Continue reading “Liv’s Favorites”
